Engrained is an opportunity for students, faculty, staff and the larger community to engage in sustainable dining through a living-learning restaurant that is committed to locally grown food and environmentally friendly practices. The restaurant is located on the 2nd floor of Arizona State University's Memorial Union at the Tempe campus.

Engrained features locally grown and harvested food prepared to order. Our seasonal menu includes organic produce, Fair-Trade coffee, cage-free eggs and chicken, free-range beef and sustainable seafood.

In addition to food, Engrained offers an engaging and educational experience. An informational thread runs throughout the restaurant featuring interesting facts and eco-saving techniques to create a live atmosphere that informs guests on ways to make sustainability a part of their daily lives.

Unfortunately, this is one of the fastest growing sources of emissions that contribute toward climate change. What can you do? Drive less and with fewer cars on the road we'll have less traffic, less pollution, less dependency on oil, and cleaner and fresher air to breathe!

Last summer, I moved out to Arizona and chose a set of two wheels instead of four. Over the past year, I've had an opportunity to explore all the modes of alternative transportation that Phoenix has to offer. I enjoy the daily bike to work, ride the lightrail and the various bus routes, and head out on the occasional road trip with a car packed of friends. Even if the time comes to get a (hybrid, biodiesel or very fuel efficient) car, I'll be sure to continue to travel lightly and encourage you to do the same!
