The Engrained café comes to Arizona State University as part of ARAMARK’s Green Thread Platform

The mission behind Engrained is outlined in what we call our 6 Intentions:

Radius 150
Waste Not Want Not
Buy Smart
Wall to Wall
Around the Community
Daily Commute

Each of these 6 Intentions Summarizes our goals and actions toward reducing our environmental footprint through educating and supporting our patrons to make sustainability a part of their daily lives.

Engrained will feature locally grown and harvested food prepared to order. Organic produce, Fair-Trade coffee, cage-free eggs and chicken, free-range beef and sustainable seafood will all be available from a seasonal menu. Students will even be able to watch chefs prepare meals in a hearth oven. Patrons will be connected with the farms from which their food was harvested, receive tips on ways they can change their day-to-day behavior and make a positive impact. An educational thread runs throughout the restaurant featuring eco-friendly products and eco-saving techniques, creating a live atmosphere that is exciting morning, noon, and night. Engrained goes beyond Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Rethink, Relearn, Reward. The Princeton Review recently named ASU among the top colleges and universities that made “The 2009 Green Rating Honor Roll.” ASU was also one of 11 schools who received a perfect score of 99.
